OpenAI's new GPT-6.1 Terra does computer work for half the price of its older models
OpenAI says Terra is over three times faster than its bigger models and built for everyday office tasks.

OpenAI has released GPT-6.1 Terra, a new AI model built to do computer work quickly and cheaply. A model is the AI program behind a chatbot like ChatGPT.
OpenAI says Terra is made for everyday office tasks. Its examples include drafting proposals, reading technical drawings, filling out forms and editing videos.
The big news is the price. OpenAI says Terra's standard prices for developers are 50% lower than those of its GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol models. Developers pay $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. A token is a small piece of text, often part of a word.
OpenAI also says Terra completes tasks over three times faster than its larger GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol models.
On a test of professional computer tasks called Agents' Last Exam, Terra scored 15 percentage points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra at about one-third the cost, according to OpenAI. On a coding test called Terminal-Bench 4.0, it solved 50.3% of tasks. That is more than double the older model's 21.5%.
OpenAI says its bigger models are still the better choice for the most complex coding tasks.
Terra is available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Developers can also use it through OpenAI's API, the connection that lets other software use the model.
Open it and check the claim yourself. That is the point.
