Meta is linking about 1 million AI chips in Ohio to work as one giant computer
Meta says the first part of Prometheus, its huge AI computer in New Albany, Ohio, is already done. At full size it will link roughly 1 million chips that work in lockstep.

Meta has shared a look inside Prometheus, a huge AI computer it is building in New Albany, Ohio. Meta calls it a "gigawatt-scale supercluster". In plain words, it is a giant group of computers built to use power on the scale of a large power plant. Its job is to teach new AI systems.
The first part is already done. Meta says it was used to train its new Muse AI models. Meta says this work will bring new AI features to billions of people.
Today the site holds hundreds of thousands of graphics chips, the chips that do the heavy work in AI. They sit in several buildings. Miles of fiber cable link them, so they act as a single machine. At full size, Meta says Prometheus will hold roughly 1 million chips, all working in lockstep.
Two years ago, the same site was an ordinary data center for websites. Meta rebuilt it for AI.
Keeping so many chips busy is hard. One broken computer can slow down or stop a whole training job. Meta says it fixed many of these problems, so its big training runs now go longer between stops.
All those chips get hot. Meta cools them with liquid that flows in a closed loop, right up to the chips. It says this saves space and uses water more carefully. Meta also says it pays the full cost of the energy it uses there and tries not to strain the local power grid. Newer NVIDIA chips are coming next.
Open it and check the claim yourself. That is the point.
