Google may call your business to confirm details, and the answer can land on your profile

Google's Business Profile help page describes automated calls, texts and WhatsApp messages sent to a business's verified number, and says answers may be used to update the profile. A screen now lists each collected item with its source and date, and a Delete control.

Google's Business Profile help documentation carries a section headed "Review information collected by Google". It describes how the details arrive: "Google may occasionally reach out using automated messages via call, text, or WhatsApp to the verified phone number on your profile."

What happens to the answers is stated without hedging: "Any information you provide in response to these messages may be used to update your profile." If the number on the profile is a phone anyone on the team might pick up, that is the sentence to read twice.

The page also says where to look. From the Business Profile, owners "Select Edit profile Collected info." There, per the same page, "You can also find the source of this info and the date it was collected." Entries can be removed: "If you want to remove a piece of information, select Delete".

Google then adds a tip that changes what that button means: "Deleting collected information removes it from Google's records but does not change other details already on your Business Profile." Removing the record is not the same as reversing the edit it produced.

Not every owner will find the screen. The page says the feature "is currently available for select regions, languages, and business categories and may not be available for all users." It also notes that "This information displays in the language it was originally provided in."

What this does not mean. It does not mean Google publishes whatever it hears unchecked: the page describes a review screen and a delete control for each item. It does not mean every business has that screen, because Google limits it to "select regions, languages, and business categories". It does not mean deleting an entry undoes a change already made to the profile — Google's own tip says the opposite. And it does not establish when any of this started: the help page carries no published or updated date, so a start date quoted anywhere else is not coming from this document.
