Google wants you to get more done without leaving its apps. On October 28, it launched a new way for outside apps to work inside Search and the Gemini app. Google calls them Connected Apps.

These apps let you finish everyday tasks right in Gemini or Search. Google gives simple examples, like ordering groceries and making playlists. You ask, and the connected app does the work.

Google says it has now launched more than 50 Connected Apps across Search and Gemini. They cover areas from work tools and event tickets to health and fitness. Apps from partners like Adobe, Experian, Localiza and Peloton are already live in Gemini. Google says they will come to Search in the coming weeks. A new app from Calm is also on the way for both.

The bigger news is for the people who make apps. Google opened a preview of a new Connected Apps Platform. It is one place to build an app once and offer it in both Search and Gemini. App makers sign up, test and send in their app through a Google tool. Before review, they pick where it goes live: Search, Gemini, or both.

There is a catch. The platform is only a preview for now. Google is opening access in phases. It says it will add more app makers, more markets and more Google products over the coming months. So the list of apps you can use will keep changing.

What this does not mean. It does not mean every app works everywhere yet. Some partner apps are live only in Gemini for now and reach Search in the coming weeks, and the new platform is a preview that opens in phases.
