Google has a new AI helper for offices. It is called the Gemini agent, and Google calls it "your new single, universal agent for work."

The idea is simple. You do not have to spell out every step. In Google's words, "You give it objectives, not instructions." You hand it a job and come back later to finished work.

The most unusual part is how it can join a team. A company describes the role it needs, like an events coordinator, and Google says the agent then gets its own work account. That means its own email address, calendar, file space and a spot in the company staff list. Coworkers can add it to a group chat or tag it in a document, the same way they would tag a person.

Google also says the helper keeps working after you close your laptop. Jobs that take hours or even days keep running online.

What about privacy? Google says "A coworker agent acts under its own identity rather than yours, and it sees only what you share with it." Every action it takes is written down under the agent's name, not a person's name.

There is also a money brake. A company can set a hard spending limit. If the limit is reached, the agent stops and waits until someone lets it go on.

Google says nearly 80% of its cloud customers already use its AI products. The new agent was shown on October 8 at the company's Gemini at Work event.

What this does not mean. This is aimed at companies that pay for Google's work tools. Google's post does not give a price or say when every company can use it.
