Anthropic's new small AI model costs about 75% less to run
Claude Haiku 5.5 is built for quick, repeat jobs like summaries and customer support, and it is the company's fastest model so far.

Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI assistant, has a new small model called Claude Haiku 5.5. The company calls it "the cheapest, fastest, and most capable small model we've ever released."
Small models are the quick workers of AI. They do short jobs again and again, like writing summaries, sorting messages or answering simple questions. Big companies run them many times a day, so speed and price matter a lot.
Anthropic says Haiku 5.5 costs around 75% less to run than Haiku 4.5, the model before it. It is also the company's fastest model so far. That makes it a good fit for live customer support, where people do not like to wait.
Some companies tested it early. Asana, which makes software for planning work, said it saw "over a 30% reduction in latency" for its tasks. In plain words, answers came back faster. HubSpot said the new model got the best score it has seen on its tests of sales tasks, like reporting on deals.
There is news for heavy users, too. People who pay for the top Claude Max plans or for Team plans will get a monthly credit to build their own AI tools. Max 20x users will get $200 a month.
Anthropic is also clear about the limits. For big and complex coding jobs, it says its larger models are still the better choice. Haiku 5.5 is meant for smaller tasks that used to cost too much.
The new model is out now. It also works through cloud services from Amazon, Google and Microsoft.
Open it and check the claim yourself. That is the point.
