Companies that send out press releases have a new question to answer: will AI assistants pick them up? A press release is a news note a company sends to reporters and the public.

On November 2, ACCESS Newswire launched a set of AI helpers it calls SPOT. The company sends out press releases for other businesses. SPOT checks a release after it is written and before it goes out.

There are seven helpers in all. Three come with every release. One checks the release against the company's content rules. One flags anything that needs outside permission, like other companies' stock symbols, public figures or outside photos. One picks the best date and time to send it.

Four more can be added. The one that stands out predicts how likely ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok are to cite the release. It gives a score out of 100 and the top three fixes. Other add-ons check how easy the text is to read and how strong the headline is.

Every report ends with fixes in plain language. Customers can edit and check again at no extra cost. Human editors still review every release.

The company says most tools only track AI mentions after the fact. Its score is a prediction made while the release can still be changed.

Brian Balbirnie, the company's CEO, put it this way: "AI assistants have become a primary gateway to news, and they decide which sources to cite".

What this does not mean. It does not mean a high score guarantees that ChatGPT or any other assistant will cite a release. The score is a prediction.
